Lloydminster Wastewater Treatment Plant comes online

Its mission accomplished for the new Lloydminster Wastewater Treatment Plant with an official opening planned for next spring.

The City’s GPC meeting accepted the final report on Monday for the $81.5 million project with funding from Saskatchewan, Alberta, the federal government, and the City of Lloydminster.

Regulation changes by the Saskatchewan Water Security Agency and Environment Canada meant that the old lagoon system had to be replaced with a new wastewater treatment facility by Dec. 1. Mayor Gerald Aalbers is confirming that the city has met the target date.

“We have approvals from the provincial and federal government acknowledging that we met the deadline, Dec. 1, 2023,” says Aalbers.

The mayor adds that the old system will remain as a backup.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
