A 44-year-old man from Prelate, Saskatchewan is to answer charges in Vermilion after the local RCMP investigated severalĀ copper thefts.
Vermilion RCMP say there have been multiple reports of copper wire thefts from the County of Vermilion River resulting in thousands of dollars in damages and impact to the local business community.
On Jun. 25, police received a complaint of theft and mischief to an oil lease site. They report that when they arrived a fire had been set on the property and copper wire had been taken. They added that their investigation linked a vehicle to the scene, and they proceeded to identify a suspect.
Following the investigation, Shane Peter Comerford, a resident of Prelate, Saskatchewan was charged with:
- Arson
- Break and enter
- Mischief under $5000
- Theft under $5000
Comerford was taken before a Justice of the Peace and released. He is to return to Alberta Court of Justice in Vermilion on Jan. 15, 2024.
