Rustlers Hockey Fights Cancer on Friday at Russ Robertson Arena

The Lakeland College Rustlers Women’s Hockey fraternity will gear up for the Chemotherapy Ward at the Lloydminster Hospital on Friday as it hosts a game at the Russ Robertson Arena.

The group aims to raise $15,000 through donations and auction items as alumni and community members will take to the ice in support of the fight against cancer.

The entire organization is all voluntary and the hook-up with the Lloydminster Region Health Foundation has been ongoing over the last three years.

Assistant coach Warren Noble says there are several auction items online for the community to place bids.

“We have a number of Oilers tickets on there. We some pottery and tools.” These would all make great Christmas gifts note organizers.

Stephanie Munro, CEO of the Lloydminster Region Health Foundation says they are thrilled about the collaboration.

“For the money to be going right to the Chemo ward at the Lloydminster Hospital to help out patients directly right here in our community means so much to us.”

Noble, who works at Cenovus Energy, says they are pitching in and have raised some $9,600 already towards the goal.

Puck drop for Rustlers Hockey Fights Cancer is 7 p.m.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
