The Elk Island National Park Management Plan is before the House of Commons for review.
The scenic park located about 2 hours west of Lloydminster along Highway 16 has been known to attract visitors from across Canada and internationally. It plays a role in the conservation of the American bison.
Environment officials note the updated plan outlines several strategies including:
- Strengthening relationships with Indigenous Peoples in the spirit of Indigenous stewardship
- Working towards ecological integrity in the park
- Working with others in support of ecological sustainability
- Creating connections and inspiring people
- Responding and adapting to climate change
A review of national park plans is conducted every 10 years.
