Team Canada West with Lloydminster Bobcats GM Nigel Dube on board as director of operations have won the gold medal at the World Jr. A Challenge in Truro, Nova Scotia.
“This win today truly shows the character of this team,” said Canada West head coach Scott Barney.
The team squeaked into the playoff round with just a single win in the prelims. It then handed the United States its marching orders with an overtime win in Saturday’s semifinals.
Canada West put the 7-2 win over Team Canada East on Sunday at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre.
This is the first time since 2017 that Team Canada West have won the gold medal, and it’s the most goals scored in a gold medal game since the United States won in 2008.
