The 9th Parade of Lights in Lloydminster has over 50 entries registered and the weather forecast for Thursday, Dec 21 calls for -4 temperatures with a -10 feel when the parade starts at 7 p.m. Alberta time.
Organizer Ryan LeBlanc says all the volunteer spots are full and the barricades will be in place by 6:45 p.m. to cordon off the parade route. Event planners ask not to park along the parade path, but to get to your desired place early enough as there will be lots of places to see the festivities.
“People can just park off the route. You don’t have to be in a vehicle and let everybody get a good sight of the parade,” says LeBlanc.
The parade route:
- Starts from 56 Street heading west to 50 Avenue or Highway 17
- It heads south along 50 Avenue passing through downtown
- Turns east at City Hall on 46th Street
- Then loops back north along 49 Avenue
- Ends at the Civic Centre via 54 Street
There will be a warming station on the green space on 49 Street and 51 Avenue with hot chocolate, cookies, and music. This is being set up by the Downtown Area Redevelopment Committee from 6-9:30 p.m.
Funds raised via any donations to the parade will go to Lloydminster Rescue Squad, Lloydminster Region Health Foundation, and Lloydminster Exhibition Association, along with toy donations for Lloydminster Sexual Assault Services.
