Not all the action at the Astec Safety Curling Challenge is happening on the ice. Another aspect is through works of art being auctioned to raise money for a student bursary.
Artists Arthur Dagenais, Katy Messmer, Harwell Teves, and Michelle Lake took part in the Astec Safety Art Challenge on Wednesday night at the Lloydminster Golf and Curling Centre. During the social for the curling headliners, the artists put their talent on the line for two hours to create pieces for the auction.
Half of the proceeds will go towards the scholarship for someone pursuing an arts degree with the other half for the artists, explains Lake.
“One of my core beliefs is to promote art within the community. So, I go into the schools, and I work with the kids.”
The four works of art may be viewed, and bids placed on the 32 auction website. The highest bidders for each piece will be declared on Sunday at the end of the curling tournament.
