Minimum age to buy smokes goes up to 19 in Saskatchewan

From Feb. 1, you will have to be at least 19 years old to buy tobacco and vaping products in Saskatchewan including Lloydminster.

While the legal age is 18 in Alberta, Saskatchewan is moving the age limitation up by one year, saying it wants to align tobacco and vaping product restrictions with alcohol and cannabis.

Government-issued ID will be required, and retailers will have to update their signage. Signs must be visible at the cash register where products are purchased.

MyLloydminsterNow checked with some local retailers who are aware of the new rules and already have their signs to put up on Feb. 1.
