Saskatchewan livestock and forage research is getting a cash injection of $6.8 million from the federal and provincial governments.
The funds will go towards 30 new research projects for 2024, which is about a 14 per cent increase compared to last year.
The projects include rapid and sensitive pathogen surveillance for Bovine Respiratory Disease in cattle, development of new red clover cultivars for Western Canada, and African Swine Fever preparedness with a focus on evaluating manure management and treatment strategies, among other research efforts.
In addition to the federal-provincial Agriculture Development Fund (ADF) funding, a total of $478,597 for eight livestock and forage projects was contributed by five industry co-funders:
- Saskatchewan Cattlemen’s Association
- Saskatchewan Forage Seed Development Commission
- Saskatchewan Canola Development Commission
- Saskatchewan Pulse Growers
- Saskatchewan Wheat Development Commission
