Volunteers wanted for Sask Summer Games Lloydminster

The call is going out for over 1000 volunteers needed by organizers of the Saskatchewan Summer Games in Lloydminster planned for July 21-27.

Organizers have set up shop at the Synergy Credit Union headquarters and the local financier is pitching in $50,000 as the official volunteer sponsor.

Co-Chair of the games Aaron Rawlake says volunteers can go to the portal on the games website or use the QR code to sign up.

“It’s a really simple process. You put your information in, then the committee will contact you. You’re able to designate when you’re available, what you would like to be part of. You can be part of multiple things, days, jobs. Whatever works for the people.”

Also, volunteers can come to the Synergy building and visit the games office to get more information and sign up, adds Rawlake.

Trevor Beaton with Synergy says its staff volunteers a lot – giving over 38 hours per staff member in 2023.

“Volunteering is part of what we do. We strongly encourage all of our staff to volunteer. Find a path that they have passion for and that they can make a difference in the community that they live in. We are sure a lot of them will take the opportunity to support the games as well.”

Beaton notes the community and economic impact of the games and celebrates youth involvement, saying it’s “something they want to be a part of.”

Mayor Gerald Aalbers, speaking at the volunteer announcement, stressed the important role of volunteers in the event’s success.

“Volunteering is the essence of our community – it built our community. This city is renowned for our volunteering in support of sporting and cultural events to build the city that we have today. I encourage everyone – young and old, to come out and participate this summer. And volunteer.”

Some 1800 athletes including special Olympians and over 5000 people are expected in Lloydminster for the July sport event.

More information about volunteering for the games is available online.
