Alberta five officially sign to BCHL, AJHL reacts

The five Alberta junior hockey teams bound for BC have reportedly signed on the dotted line with BCHL and the Alberta Junior Hockey League is weighing in.

Brooks Bandits, Okotoks Oilers, Blackfalds Bulldogs, Sherwood Park Crusaders, and Spruce Grove Saints have all had their games in the AJHL cancelled since Jan. 24 when the BCHL announced that the five Alberta teams were crossing the border to play in the independent league.

On Thursday, Feb. 1, BCHL said the deal was done and posted a schedule of games for the Alberta teams from Feb. 2-28 on its website. Details of the post-season will be forthcoming.

Meanwhile, the AJHL is expressing its support for the 11 remaining clubs including the Lloydminster Bobcats and the Bonnyville Pontiacs. It looks forward to an exciting finish to its 60th year.

It notes the loss of the five franchises is disappointing, but is happy that everyone’s true positions have been clarified.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
