Lloydminster and District Co-op has secured naming rights for the NHL-sized Co-op Community Arena with a sponsorship of $300,000 for 10 years. The deal will see the Lakeland College Rustlers Women’s Hockey Team as one of the teams to call the new rink home ice when it opens as part of the Cenovus Energy Hub entertainment centre.
CEO Peter Brown expressed their excitement for the community sponsorship as both the Co-op and Lakeland College are celebrating 110 years of legacy in the area.
“We are sponsors of the Rustlers too. We are super excited. It’s a really good partnership. That way too – we continue to sponsor the Rustlers. They are going to have a new home. It’s going to be great.
Lakeland College Rustlers coach Morgan Mann says, “The Lloydminster Co-op continues to invest in our community in a big way and we appreciate their investment in the Lakeland College Apex Automation Rustlers.”
“Not many communities get to say they have a college plus, with the level of sports we have in our community. This is one of the ways we can raise their profile, and again enhance the look of the city. (Students) will want to go to school there. They want to go to Lakeland College. And I think it just adds to the value of what our city has to offer,” says Councillor Michael Diachuk, who notes the Triple-A Steelers and Jnr. B are also being considered for home ice status at the new arena.
