Teachers suspend planned Thursday job action

The Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation, STF, is holding off on noon-hour job action for Thursday, Feb. 8 saying that the government has invited them to resume collective bargaining talks.

The STF says that it got the invitation from the Government-Trustee Bargaining Committee late on Wednesday which stated it had received a new mandate from the government.

The talks are due to resume on Monday, Feb. 12 in Saskatoon.

Discussions for a new bargaining agreement started last May and stalled in the summer with the teachers wanting class sizes and complexity issues like mental health and classroom supports to be on the table.

The government has offered teachers a seven per cent wage increase over three years, but the teachers’ bargaining team maintained that conditions of employment and the learning environment of students were paramount to reaching any agreement.
