Former LPSD intern facing sex charges in Peace River

A teacher who was a student intern in the Lloydminster Public School Division in 2014 is the accused in a McLennan, Alberta RCMP sexual offences investigation involving a minor.

On Feb. 7, Brock Mackenzie Whalen, 31-years now residing in Peace River was charged with:

  • Sexual assault
  • Sexual interference
  • Two counts of luring a child
  • Making sexually explicit material available to a child
  • Child exploitation

The LPSD indicates that families have been notified of the active investigation, and advised to follow the RCMP’s process if they have any concerns or information related to this incident.

Investigators say the investigation goes back to June 2023 with a report of sexual offences against a youth. The offences took place while the youth was attending a school in the High Prairie School Division.

Whalen was brought before a justice of the peace and released on conditions. His next court date is set for March 18, 2024, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Peace River.

Whalen has been employed by several school districts in Alberta and Saskatchewan, including the High Prairie School Division, Holy Family Catholic Regional Division, Saskatoon Public School Division (2013 and 2015), and the LPSD (2014).

Parents or guardians concerned that their child or children may have been affected are encouraged to contact the McLennan RCMP at 780-324-3086 or your local police.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
