With five to ten new families or individuals seeking help each week and 50-60 hampers going out, the Lloydminster Salvation Army is keeping up with demand even as it welcomes your donations.
Major Bond Jennings says the need is consistent even though some weeks more people are calling.
“With the way society and the economy are, people are still in need.”
The Salvation Army also helps some 20-25 seniors each week and with the help of Bea Fisher, packs and sends about 150 hampers for kids at school to take home on the weekend. That program is now in its second year.
Jennings says people can pitch in with pasta and pasta sauces, canned goods, cereals, rice, hamburger helper, boxed scalloped potatoes, and other non-perishable food items.
For toiletries, while they concentrate on meeting the food needs, they will also welcome those donations.
Anyone bringing large food donations is asked to call ahead at 780-875-9166 to alert staff at the Salvation Army.
