Back to Back Champions : The Lakeland College Rustlers Womens Volleyball team

For the second time in a row, the Lakeland College Rustlers have won gold at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women’s Volleyball National Championship, hosted in Red Deer, AB this year.

On Saturday, March 9th the team faced off against the Vancouver Island University (VIU) Mariners on the court.

Avery Bates and Lana Matthews had 10 kills each, the Rustlers downed the VIU Mariners in three sets (25-21, 25-17 and 25-10).

Setter Jana Laing contributed 29 assists, nine digs, one kill and two blocks for the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Champions.

Jana Laing was awarded the Rustlers Player of the Game after her efforts, as well as the Championship Most Valuable Player award.

In this two-year run, Lakeland’s match record is 48-2. One of the greatest stretches of any collegiate program in all of Canada.
