Green carts return April 1

The green carts are back on the streets of Lloydminster as of April 1, following the collection zone schedule as listed on the city’s website.

Things like pizza boxes, cat litter, and pet waste, that’s bagged and in small amounts can go into the green cart.

Branches, leaves, and grass clippings are also allowed, along with coffee grounds and filters, cooking oils and grease, shredded paper, sawdust, and small pieces of wood.

What’s not allowed – no cardboard, concrete, rocks, or soil and biodegradable but non-compostable bags. In the past, the city has shared concerns about engine oil filters, animal carcasses, metal, plastic bottles, paint cans, furniture, electronics, Styrofoam, clothing, aerosol cans, car batteries, small engines, vinyl tarps, 3D printers, among other items ending up in the organic landfill.

The city says that recycling organic materials in the green cart diverts waste from the landfill.

More information including cleaning your green cart is available on the city’s website.
