Lloydminster and Cold Lake airports get Alberta dollars for feasability studies

Both Lloydminster and Cold Lake are getting Alberta grant dollars for their local airports as the province disburses support to 10 regional airports.

The Lloydminster Municipal Airport is getting $113,988 from Alberta for a Commercial Air Services Feasibility Study. WestJet announced in December that its last flight to Lloydminster will be April 15. The city made attempts to get the airline to reverse its decision, but WestJet cited low flight numbers as the reason. From 2019 to 2023, passenger volumes went from some 19,000 down to about 11,000.

The Cold Lake Regional Airport is also getting a grant of $144,000 for a feasibility study for airport certification to support scheduled air services.

Overall, Alberta is distributing $1.13 million to regional airports. Officials see the grant funds as supporting 10 regional airports in “developing business cases and feasibility studies for improved airport infrastructure and air transportation.”

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
