Volunteer lead, Dan Rugama says the main focus of his new position is to retain and recruit more volunteers for the secondhand stores.

“So, making sure that the functions of our storefronts are working properly, whether that’s cash volunteers, helping with customers making purchases or with backend operations, with sorting and receiving donations.”

Sales from the secondhand stores go toward the operations of the Interval Home which supports women and children needing shelter and help in an abusive relationship.

Rugama says the “need for more volunteers is there.” He adds he can help people figure out their reason for volunteering and what people want to achieve by giving their time to support the work of the Interval Home via the thrift stores.

“For a consistent volunteer base, we are looking at upwards of about twenty,” says Rugama.

People who want to volunteer can stop by the Interval Store or go to its website and social media.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
