Red Dress Day is observed every year on May 4, but to involve wider community support including from schools, Lloydminster organizers will have a walk and other activities on Friday, May 3.
The Lloydminster Native Friendship Centre will begin Friday’s activities with a pipe ceremony at 10:30 a.m., says event coordinator, Laurie Harris.
“Everyone is welcome. We encourage you to wear red.”
The group will walk from City Hall at about 12:15 p.m. to the Clock Tower then back along 49 Avenue to the Native Friendship Centre for dancing and drumming outside then a luncheon inside. Following this, a family that has been affected by the loss of a loved one who went missing, will share their experience.
With the weather forecast on Friday calling for an overcast day with a high of seven degrees, organizers are taking note and participants should dress according to the conditions.
