Meet me at the Mother Teresa Playground

Meet me at the Mother Teresa Playground is the phrase that kids at the Lloydminster school will be cheering when Blue Imp workers put on the finishing touches, and the play space is ready to go next week.

The seven-year fundraising dream is on the homestretch for some 230 students from Pre-K to grade two, along with Play and Learn Daycare who presently spend their days enjoying the indoor and outdoor learning areas.

Board chair of the Lloydminster Catholic School Division, Paula Scott noted while many of the kids who started the fundraising have moved on, they will still be able to come by and see their legacy effort.

“The kids and the families have been so supportive of Mother Teresa in getting this project going.”

The work started on Tuesday, May 21, and the plan is to get it all done by Friday, May 24. The new playground will have six swings and other fun amenities.

The fundraising included colour runs, pizza sales, and bottle drives matched by grant dollars to get the playground over the finish line.

“We had parents helping. We have had the city pitching in as well as many others,” said Scott as she noted the excitement of the kids who can’t wait to play in the new play space.

“The kids in these classrooms are a little distracted as they are watching at the construction. It’s worth it for the few days to get this beautiful playground out here.”

Mother Teresa also has an outdoor classroom, a music station, and a teepee to augment the learning of the art of play.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
