Some 2500 students from Lloydminster and area took in the third annual Inter-School Powwow at the Centennial Civic Centre on Wednesday, June 5.
Heart of Treaty 6 organizers are thankful to the numerous community partners as the annual celebration showcases Indigenous cultures and offers students an immersive learning opportunity.
“We are here celebrating cultural sacred songs and dance. It’s just a nation-to-nation friendship and community celebration.”
Organizers see the value in having the learning opportunity for schools.
“It’s about celebration, coming together, and learning,” says Kelly-Hyde.
Next on the Heart of Treaty 6 event calendar is a Grand Circle event on June 19 at the Milleton Community Hall on Highway 21 North. The Bresaylor Heritage Museum which celebrates Métis traditions has been invited to lead the learning on the area’s history.
The Grand Circle events coincide with the solstice and equinox with the summer solstice on June 20 at 2:50 p.m. MST.
