UPDATE: Over 30 ATCO customers near the ballpark along 52 Street and surrounding areas have been without power since 9:28 a.m. on Thursday, July 18. ATCO estimates restoring power by 5 p.m. The work involves replacing power poles that were sprayed with liquid asphalt from an oil hauler late Sunday night which resulted in 52 Street being closed to traffic near the bulk cardlock.
There will be a planned power outage by ATCO on Thursday, July 18 to allow crews to do further clean-up activities after Sunday’s liquid asphalt spill on 52 Street near the bulk cardlock.
ATCO is calling the affected businesses directly to advise them of the planned outage. The ATCO map indicates 39 customers will be affected as ATCO will be installing new power poles to replace the ones affected by the liquid asphalt spill.
The power disconnection will affect several businesses in the downtown area beginning from 8 a.m. and lasting for about 6-7 hours.
Meanwhile, 52 Street remains closed on both sides as crews continue the clean-up. Traffic is being detoured onto 59 Street north from the west side of the asphalt plant. On the east side of 52 Street, access from 50 Avenue onto the ring road (52 Street) is blocked completely.
