Holy Rosary Raiders ready to defend provincial title

The Holy Rosary Senior Raiders football program is rolling out the title defence and aiming for a three-peat of its Alberta Schools’ Athletic Association title.

The seniors’ schedule heading to September:

  • Aug. 30 – Ross Sheppard (home) – 5 p.m.
  • Sep. 6 – Lloydminster Comp Barons (home) – 6 p.m. (Exhibition game)
  • Sep. 13 – Olds (home) – 5 p.m.

The Sep. 6 game against the Lloyd Comp Barons is an exhibition game as the Barons play in a Saskatchewan league.

Meanwhile, the Junior Raiders will host a fundraiser that evening with a pre-game barbecue. The young Raiders play in the Capital District Minor Football Association or CDMFA. They have qualified for the Tier 1 Division for U-16 and will match their skills against teams in the capital region.

“We are excited to compete against the top teams in the province of Alberta. We are a small school competing against teams in a large metropolitan area that have been running their programs for years. This being our first year as a program we are excited for the opportunity to showcase and develop our program,” says Keegan Kozak with the Junior Raiders coaching staff.

The juniors’ schedule is:

  • Aug. 31 – Fort Saskatchewan Falcons (away) – 3:30 p.m.
  • Sep. 7 – Leduc Ti-Cats (away) – 4:30 p.m.
  • Sep. 14 –  North Edmonton Seahawks (home) – 1:00 p.m.
  • Sep. 21 – Spruce Grove Cougars (away) – 12:30 p.m.
