Councillors get GIS update at GPC

With a new staff sergeant at the helm, councillors at the GPC meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 15 got an update on the work of the General Investigation Section (GIS) in the Lloydminster RCMP.

Jerry Nutbrown has 21 years with the RCMP working in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. The report to council shows the GIS has 11 regular members and one municipal
employee. It’s operating below optimal staff levels with plans to fill some vacancies expected by the end of the year.

The GIS has two functions – Specialized Investigations, and Crime Reduction.

Specialized Investigations can implement targeted initiatives addressing specific areas of criminal activity. The Crime Reduction Unit collaborates with other municipalities to learn from their efforts in addressing issues related to the unhoused and repetitive crime.

In accepting the report as information, council also learned that GIS is working to become a proactive investigative unit to reduce crime and decrease calls for service from Lloydminster residents.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
