The candidates for the Lloydminster Public School Division Board of Trustees will also have their names on the ballot in the upcoming Lloydminster city-wide elections on Nov. 13.

The names with information about the candidates are on the LPSD website. Voters will have a tough task to choose among the nine candidates vying for seven seats.

  • Cathy Cornet has served on the board for 15 years. She has lived in Lloydminster for 28 years and has seven grandchildren, two of whom are currently at LPSD schools.
  • Chrissy Gee is a former Lloyd Comp teacher, has two school-aged children, and serves on their schools’ SCCs. She has held previous roles on the board including vice chair.
  • Diane Gow is a name synonymous with volleyball and basketball for over a decade. The retired business owner has three children who blossomed in the LPSD system.
  • Karoline Kennedy has been a board trustee since 2008. She has served on the finance, governance, and other committees, along with vice chair and chair-person roles.
  • Melanie Mutter is putting her name forward to once again serve on the LPSD board. In the past, she has led the governance and staff relations committees.
  • Akshay Naik owns and operates two food franchises in the community. Having watched his son grow up in the LPSD system he wants to bring his business savvy to the education table.
  • Cheryl Ross prides herself on her volunteerism and has had four children who grew up attending LPSD schools. The past trustee, parent, and community leader is ready to bring her skills to the education field.
  • Viren Tailor brings over 15 years of experience in public administration, advocacy, and government relations. His most recent role was as chief financial officer for the County of Vermilion River.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
