The ride on the local ski hill just got smoother with a $150,000 investment by Strathcona Resources into the Mount Joy Snow Resort just southwest of Lloydminster.
The three-year deal will support “operations, upgrade facilities, expand school and learning programs,” and identify more year-round recreation options. Also, for the first time, Mount Joy will be able to hire a full-time staff member.
“Mount Joy began as a ski hill, but over its nearly 60 years of operation, it has expanded to include trail systems, bike paths, and nature-based learning programs. It’s become a year-round space for outdoor pursuits of all kinds,” beams Greg Nohnychuk, manager of operations – Saskatchewan Thermal at Strathcona. “For local people and families, including a lot of our employees, many memories are made at Mount Joy. There isn’t another similar facility for hundreds of kilometers.”
For all of Mount Joy’s six decades, it has been a volunteer outfit. Ski and outdoor lovers will welcome an amazing winter season, and look forward to opening day which is yet to be announced.
