The build for the new playground at Father Gorman Community School is aiming to wrap up with a Nov. 1 opening at 11 a.m.
A massive community effort took off in the wake of the Aug. 26 fire that took out the playground and threatened the school building which was saved by the expeditious work of the Lloydminster Fire Department. Some 400 school kids are very excited for the new inclusive space.
“They are very excited and ultimately it’s about them being able to come and play here,” says school principal, Scott Young.
The City of Lloydminster came on board as a building partner and even though the weather is changing out, mayor Gerald Aalbers was on hand to share in the enthusiasm of the build better effort.
“The city and the community has risen up together to bring the playground back. I can’t imagine kids coming out here and seeing the burnt playground material from what they used to enjoy. And now all of a sudden, they have got this brand new facility being built,” says Aalbers.
Father Gorman and Lloydminster Catholic School Division officials are expressing their deep gratitude for all those who extended themselves in such a timely way to rebuild a better playground for the children.
