The 27th Rudolph Roundup is now underway with Lloydminster Comprehensive students leading a deployment of collection boxes across the city in support of donations for the Spark Foundation.
The drive which runs until Dec. 6 has a wishlist of items from the Spark Foundation for its families along with cash and gift cards which community members can donate.
At the school, student leadership is spearheading the effort of collecting winter gear, clothing, gifts for the children, and other supplies. Bragging rights for generosity and a pizza prize are still on the line for the most generous class.
“The Spark Foundation has needs over all different ages, but like diapers and pullups especially for some of the younger kids. Self-care and hygiene items are needed. And then brand-new pillows and comforters. Things to make the families feel comforted and cared for during these times,” said grade 12 student, Gracie Lilienskold.
The wish list from the families who are being supported as they transition from abusive situations includes mattress covers, pajamas, hair straighteners, blow dryers, journals, planners, and fun things like games, movie and other recreation facility passes, gift cards, and other items.
“Since COVID, the needs have skyrocketed. In the last two years, we got at least $10,000 in items and cash to donate. We are hoping to break that record this year,” said teacher, Dwayne Jeffery. “For our kids, it’s a great opportunity to give back to the community.”
Several businesses across the city have drop-off boxes for Rudolph’s Roundup for the Spark Foundation including the LPSD office and the Servus Sports Centre, along with Pac N Go, Furniture Gallery, Heritage Optical, Domino’s Pizza, Weir Vet Services, Urban Planet, Canadian Tire, Osmows, Windsor Plywood, Walkn On Water Toys, Dr. Hemstock/Heartstone and others.
