Champion women’s college basketball team focused on studies

Athletic director at Lakeland College, Alan Rogan says that the women’s basketball team is focused on studies in the interim after the departure of its former head coach.

“The team has had a few practices but their main focus has been on studying and preparing for final exams.”

The team that stood behind former head coach, Chris King, and forfeited two games is still tied for first place in the ACAC North with The King’s University.

The celebrated coach with over 15 years tenure at the helm was removed by the college on Thursday, Dec. 5 after news of an investigation and his benching from the team on Nov. 28 began to circulate.

With regard to the state of the players in the face of the ongoing developments, Rogan says, “Our priority is the well-being of the student-athletes and making sure they have access to the services they need during this time.”

Concerning the former head coach, Rogan reiterated as this is a personnel matter, the College “will not be supplying further comments.”

The Rustlers next game in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) will be on Jan. 17, 2025, away to Concordia.
