Seniors will pay more to move around Lloydminster next year as the Senior Taxi Program vouchers increase from $5.00 to $5.50.
The City of Lloydminster says after a full review of the cost of operation, the fee will go up from Jan. 1.
The average cost per ride rose from $9.28 in 2019 to $12.50 in 2023, notes the city. The vouchers are used by seniors for taxis and the city subsidizes the cost at $145,828 last year up from $60,478 in 2019. The vouchers are also redeemable with Border City Connects.
In 2019, the program served 250 seniors. The number rose to 500 seniors in 2024. Voucher sales also increased from 21,268 in 2019 to 26,942 in 2023.
The vouchers are available at 13 locations across the city.
