Hurry Hard, ASTEC Safety Curling Challenge returns Jan. 8-11

Hurry hard, it’s time for curling in Lloydminster as the ASTEC Safety Curling Challenge is back at the Lloydminster Curling Centre, Jan. 8-11.

“The eyes of the curling world” will focus on Lloydminster, say organizers as they sense that curling history will unfold at the event presented by Wild Rows Pump and Compression.

The home outfit, Team Jacobs Curling will look to wrestle the title from the defending champions, says Ben Hebert. The lead notes they are currently ranked at number three in the world.

“We are going to have to play a really good week. All the top teams are there. They are all doing the right stuff too. May the best team win at the end of the week. We are really looking forward to it,” says Hebert.

The full interview with 106.1 – the Goat’s, Kalie Mac is available at this link.

Team Jacobs will represent the Maple Leaf along with reigning Canadian Brier Champions Team Gushue, Pointsbet Invitational Champions Team McEwen (SK), and defending ASTEC Safety Challenge Champions, Team Koe.

Also on the ice are World number one, Team Mouat (Scotland), 2022 Olympic Gold medalists Team Edin (Sweden), and 2026 Olympic host Team Retornaz (Italy).

Organizers are also seeking volunteers to pitch in to help create lasting memories, especially for visitors to the city.

Details of the draw are available on the ASTEC SAFETY Curling Challenge Facebook page.

Ticket information is available on Eventbrite.

ASTEC Safety Curling Challenge merchandise is also available online.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
