A vet at the Lloydminster Animal Hospital is getting a big award in the curling world.
Taryn Holtby-Schachtel received the Marj Mitchell Award for sportsmanship at this year’s Saskatchewan phase of the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, held in Kindersley.
The Lloydminster veterinarian is the second on Team Barker, and fellow curlers voted on the award which was announced on Sunday, Jan. 26 at the provincial qualification tournament.
Taryn is thanking her teammates and fellow curlers saying she is humbled to be on a list of such high-class women curlers.
Marj Mitchell curled for Saskatchewan and captured the national and world championships in 1982.
On the ice, Saskatoon’s Nancy Martin and her rink from the Nutana Curling Club will represent Saskatchewan at this year’s Scotties in Thunder Bay from Feb. 14-23.
