Lloydminster Catholic School Division (LCSD) is getting two relocatable classrooms this fall through funds from the Saskatchewan government.
“We are pleased that the Ministry of Education will be supporting students in our schools with the addition of two new portable classrooms in the 2025-2026 school year. This announcement is welcome news for families and staff at St. Joseph’s School and Ecole St. Thomas as we continue to grow,” said director of education, Nigel McCarty.
The LCSD hopes to have the new spaces in place by Christmas.
Last year, the Lloydminster Public School Division (LPSD) got funding which was used for two relocatable classrooms at College Park School.
“This addition (addresses) enrolment pressures in that neighbourhood while enhancing our capacity to offer more dynamic and flexible learning environments for our students,” said Jason Neville, director of education, LPSD.
Overall, the mid-year funding increase of $29.5 million in relocatable classrooms brings the 2024-25 investment to $58 million. This will provide 76 relocatable classes across the province.
Most funds are going to the fastest-growing cities, Regina and Saskatoon. Other communities such as Clavet, Corman Park, Humboldt, Martensville, Pilot Butte, Warman, and Weyburn will also receive relocatable classrooms to alleviate space pressures.
“With Saskatchewan’s growing population, we recognize the need for additional classroom space to support students and educators,” said Everett Hindley, education minister. “This additional investment will ensure schools that anticipate capacity challenges in 2025-26 have the necessary infrastructure to accommodate students.”
School divisions will proceed with procurement and target installation before September 2025, stated the ministry in its press release.
