Maidstone schools on hold and secure after threat

Police are currently dealing with a situation at a school in Maidstone.

According to a public statement released by Maidstone High School, both schools in the community are currently in a state of hold and secure, with police on scene. The situation they are dealing with is under control, according to the school’s Facebook page, and the two facilities will remain in their state of hold and secure until deemed otherwise safe by school officials and the RCMP.

A news release put out by the Maidstone RCMP stated that police were notified of an alleged threat made to the school(s) in Maidstone. As a precaution, Maidstone High School and Ratushniak Elementary School placed themselves in a hold and secure (exterior doors are locked and monitored and classes continue).

Students that were traveling on buses to the schools were diverted by police to the parking lot near Petro Canada and the schools are notifying parents. The Northwest School Division has also been notified.
