RCMP investigating $16K fraud at LCSD

The Lloydminster RCMP are investigating following a report of a loss of $16,399 from the Lloydminster Catholic School Division, LCSD.

The Education Ministry reported that the fraud occurred on Nov. 8 as outlined in the School Division Loss of Public Money Report Q1 2024-25.

The ministry described the funds as “public money” that was “misdirected to an inappropriate bank account as a result of someone fraudulently impersonating a supplier and initiating a change to banking information.”

Efforts to recover the funds were unsuccessful, states the education ministry.

The LCSD says it looks forward to the conclusion of the RCMP investigation and has “implemented additional safeguards to prevent future incidents,” said Nigel McCarthy, director of education, LCSD.
