The WPCA are bringing the chucks to the Wainwright Stampede in a three-year deal starting this summer.
The 2025 Wainwright Stampede from June 20-22 will see the WPCA Pro Tour races in Wainwright for the 4th stop on the 2025 WPCA circuit. The Wainwright showpiece will follow Medicine Hat and set the stage for the Ponoka Stampede.
“This show helps grow our tour, and the community really gets involved during Stampede Week,” says WPCA driver-director, Kris Molle. “There are pancake breakfasts, a cabaret, a rodeo, a parade, and more. The committee is great to work with, they have a nice facility, and there’s always lots of energy.”
Organizers see this as a “great opportunity for both the WPCA and the Wainwright area.”
Wainwright Stampede Association President Paul Harvey is excited for the collaborative effort.
“I am thrilled to announce our new three-year partnership with the World Professional Chuckwagon Association (WPCA). Ensuring that top-tier chuckwagon racing remains a highlight of the Wainwright Stampede, enhancing the experience for both participants and spectators. We are committed to upholding the rich tradition of professional rodeo in Canada, and this agreement with the WPCA ensures that the Wainwright Stampede remains a premier destination for top-tier chuckwagon racing.”
The partnership team sees the deal as solidifying “the Wainwright Stampede’s status as one of the premier stops on the WPCA circuit, and a must-see event in Canadian rodeo.”
With traditions dating to 1952 in Wainwright, when local hero Buster Newman was the event’s first champion, The chucks in Wainwright was on the WPCA schedule untilk 1983. The WPCA is excited to rekindle that relationship, notes Bryan Hebson, WPCA.
Tickets for the Wainwright Stampede will be made available online.
Organizers are selling tickets for a chance to win a 2025 Ram 1500. These are on sale at Hi-way Service Petro Canada, Paul’s Trailers and Truck Outfitting, or from any Wainwright Stampede member.
