Lakeland College is basking in its athletes achievements after a full weekend of sports that included a three-peat for its women on the national volleyball stage.
In Oshawa Ontario at Durham College, the Women’s Rustlers volleyball team are bringing back the national championship trophy with banner in tow, says Al Rogan, director of athletics.
“I am so proud of this group of ladies and coaching staff. To win one national title is a feat many teams only dream of but to win three national titles in a row is just next level.”
The women’s hockey team is in the gold medal round in the ACAC and hosted Red Deer Queens at the Russ Robertson Arena over the weekend.
The ladies head to Red Deer leading 2-1 in the best-of-five series.
“Capacity crowds, high paced action, incredible effort from our team, what more could you ask for in playoff hockey,” says Rogan. “There was so much going on in Lloydminster this weekend, but we still drew great crowds. It just shows the calibre of hockey being played and we appreciate our Rustler Nation coming out to support the program.”
On campus, the College hosted about 240 athletes and coaches at the ACAC men’s and women’s Futsal championships. In the bronze medal games, the Rustlers men and women took their games to extra time but could not come away with the medal.
The College is celebrating all of the hard-fought efforts of its athletes.
“What a weekend of great accomplishment for our programs, the College, and our Rustler Nation. We have the best fans around. We are very fortunate to be in a community that loves sport and supports our student-athletes efforts. Success is truly a team effort,” says Rogan.
