Community Round Dance, Mar. 19

With MC Jackson Rollingthunder Tahuka and the Red Tail Drum Group from Onion Lake on board, a Community Round Dance is planned for Mar. 19 at the Lloyd Ex.

Rollingthunder Tahuka is a member of the Juaneño band of Mission Indians, the Seminole Nation of Florida (bear clan), and the Tohono O’odham Nation of Arizona.

The Heart of Treaty 6 and community partners are hosting the event from 6:30-9:30 p.m.

It begins with the drummers, singers, and attendees arrival, followed by a prayer from an Elder. There will be time for dancing, visiting and even door prizes.

“Bring your family. Come and dance the night away and have a great time with community members,” says Cynthia Young, one of the organizers.

The main goal of a round dance is to bring people together. The Indigenous ceremony allows participants to move in a clockwise circle. It is to honor our ancestors and people who have made their journey and to heal the participants.

There will be an Indigenous Makers Market put on by the Lakeland College Indigenous Students Council.
