Neilburg Monarchs win in Saskatchewan

It’s been over three decades in the making, but a championship banner is once again going up in the barn as the Neilburg Senior Monarchs are the Saskatchewan Prairie Hockey League Champions for 2024-2025.

Goalie standout, Bella McKee got MVP of the playoffs following the win on Sunday, Mar. 16. The score was 5-2 over the Meota Combines who had won the league for the last three seasons.

“A couple of our coaches were on the team the last time the Monarchs won in 1992,” says McKee.

It was a big deal for them to be on the coaching staff and bring home another banner.

Mckee and the team are shouting out the staff including coaches Rob Cammidge, Jack Biensch, Shawn Hein, Dustin Elchyson, along with trainer Duncan MacEahern, and manager Chelsea Smith.

A big thank you to the community of Neilburg and area for their endless support.

The end of season banquet will follow in a couple weeks and the team will break until the fall.

“We will get back together in September and start practices again. And start prepping for the next championship,” says McKee.

The Monarchs are a men’s senior hockey team in Neilburg. Their last championship was 33 years ago when they won the final against the Paradise Valley Jets.

His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
