Funding is being made by Saskatchewan for upgrades to Avery School which now occupies the former Barr Colony School.
In the Mar. 19 Saskatchewan budget, $15 million was allocated to various upgrades across the province.
The Lloydminster Public School Division (LPSD) says the upgrades will see the removal of part of the former Barr Colony School building and renovation to benefit the learning spaces for Avery students.
The Alberta government is also expected to support the project, says LPSD.
“We are incredibly grateful to the governments of Saskatchewan and Alberta for supporting this important project. The improvements at Avery Outreach School will enhance the learning environment for students and staff, and this funding ensures that the school remains a safe, welcoming, and vibrant place for years to come,” said LPSD Board Chair, Chrissy Gee.
LPSD Director of Education, Jason Neville looks forward to the the impact the project.
“This renovation aligns with our commitment to providing inclusive and supportive spaces for all learners. It will allow us to serve our Avery students better and strengthen the functionality and adaptability of the school for years to come. We’re excited to see this vision begin to take shape.”
The school community is excited for the development, explains Avery Outreach Principal, Rob Merilees.
“Our staff and students are really looking forward to this next phase of modernization. Retrofitting the building to better meet the needs of our learners and creating updated, flexible spaces will make a big difference. Our move into the building in November was a positive step, and these upcoming renovations will help make Avery School feel like home.”
The planning phase and next steps are forthcoming.
