Over 40 students in three levels of English learning from this year’s winter program graduated this week.

Cultures from the Philippines, Cuba, Chile, China, Eritrea, Mexico, Pakistan, Poland, Ukraine, Algeria, Benin, and Syria are in this group of graduates. Many of them are newcomers to Canada.

Doreen McCaw, president of the Learning Council, recognizes the amazing milestone for the group that has deep roots in Lloydminster.

“The hard work of all of our staff, board members, and volunteers over the years have brought us to this point in time.”

McCaw notes the joy of achievement among the English language learners.

“It’s great to see all of the people coming together. All of the learners that we have served in the last year. It’s an amazing evening, and we are really pleased.”

The celebration featured handing out of certificates, and cultural pieces from Mexico, Ukraine and the Philippines, along with tasty cuisine from some of the cultures present.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
