RCMP receive new phone scam report

Battlefords RCMP are warning residents about a potential new phone scam.

The Detachment received a complain regarding the complainant getting a call from the supposed Fraud Department of a major credit card company.

The caller said they wanted to confirm a recent online purchase, which could have been a valid request, but then proceeded to ask for personal information, like the person’s the card number, in order to confirm the purchase.

The call recipient refused to provide the information and the caller hung up. Police suggest that if you believe this type of call may be legitimate, to call your credit card company right back using the phone number on the back of your card and follow proper reporting procedures.

RCMP also advise people to report suspected fraud to the police or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
