Fire ban: Level Two in Frenchman Butte

With the fire threat across the region, Frenchman Butte has raised its fire ban to Level Two, meaning there is to be no burning.

All burning permits are suspended. Anyone burning without a permit or cancelled permit will be fined.

Only exceptions are:

  • If there is supervision and a fire extinguish plan
  • Barbecues

There are fire bans in the Rms of Wilton, Britannia, Mervin, and Turtle River, among other areas.

For areas west of Lloydminster, there are fire advisories for the County of Vermilion River, fire bans in MD Wainwright, Two Hills and other areas.

The Lloydminster Fire Department is sharing the following tips for backyard recreational fires, noting that firepits must be under 36″ in any dimension, also:

  • Cover your fire with a metal screen
  • Keep the fire at least 3 metres (10 feet) away from any combustible materials, including buildings, porches, decks, fences, and grass
  • Only burn cut, seasoned wood
  • Always supervise your fire—do not leave it unattended
  • Avoid burning in windy conditions to prevent the fire from spreading
  • Keep a means of extinguishing the fire nearby at all times
  • Ensure the fire is fully extinguished when you are done
  • More information about backyard burning is on the city’s website

More fire bans: April 30, 2025

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
