Canadians advised of country-wide emergency alert test, May 7

UPDATE: Alberta will not be testing the Alert Ready system at 1:55 p.m. due to the state of wildfires in the province. The village of Boyle was evacuated on May 6 in one instance of fires affecting municipalities.

A test of the country’s new National Public Alerting System- Alert Ready, is scheduled to take place across the country on May 7.

During the test, Canadians will receive one message from their provincial or territorial emergency management organization through televisions, radios, cell phones, and other compatible devices.

The message will simulate an emergency alert, complete with the alert tone; however, it will indicate that it is a test and does not require any action from the public.

This comes as part of the CRTC’s requirements that wireless service providers and broadcasters issue one test alert per year, usually in May during Emergency Preparedness Week, and potentially again in November.

In Alberta, and Saskatchewan testing is scheduled for 1:55 p.m. MST.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
