Supporting maternal mental health – Flora’s Walk

With World Maternal Mental Health Day being the first Wednesday of May, there are three activities in Lloydminster in support of the occasion.

On Thursday, May 8, Midwest Family Connection in the Prairie North Plaza invites everyone to attend its mental health expo, from 9:00 a.m. to noon.

Local resource people will be on hand, moms will be sharing on their mental health journey. Childcare will be offered, and there will be refreshments, and giveaways.

On Thursday evening, at 6:30 pm, at Bud Miller Park Picnic Shelter, you can take part in “Chalk the Walk.”

That activity will be a night of socializing and showing your creative side by colouring the sidewalk in preparation for Flora’s Walk on Friday, May 9. Families can draw pictures, write words of wisdom and inspiration, gratitude and love, and what helps your mental health.

On May 9th from 10:00 a.m., Flora’s Walk will take place at Bud Miller All Seasons Park.

Moms, babies, family & friends are all invited to join for a mini session of the Move Your Mood Program, that’s offered through Alberta Health Services.

You can participate in a walk around Bud Miller to promote and support perinatal mental health. Families can enjoy activities and games, and finish with a community BBQ. There is no cost to attend.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
