Kitscoty RCMP hand out scholarships to local kids

Two students from the 2025 graduating class are getting a little help from Kitscoty RCMP as they move on to the next phase of their careers.

The local police led fundraising efforts with community partners and are handing out two $1,000 scholarships.

The recipients are Cooper Saville, Marwayne Jubilee School, and Sarah Leighton, Kitscoty Jr/Sr High School.

The scholarship effort was led by Cst. Daniel Brown to “incentivize the students in the Kitscoty area to develop themselves as they look toward their post graduate futures. Also, to honor the memory of Kevin Audet, a friend and colleague who passed away while completing his training to become an RCMP officer.”

The Cadet Audet Fitness and Academic Scholarship is offered to grade 12 students of Buffalo Trail Public Schools in the Kitscoty area including Kitscoty Jr/Sr High School, Marwayne Jubilee School, E.H. Walter School in Paradise Valley, and Dewberry School.

The scholarships have an academic and a fitness component that are in line with the Alberta RCMP police fitness assessment.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
