Police seek dashcam video, investigate power outage sabotage

Lloydminster RCMP are treating Monday’s (May 19) power outage as a criminal investigation.

Police are seeking your help in getting dashcam or other video footage that may have captured those responsible.

Police say a gun was fired at the ATCO substation at 75 Avenue and 12 Street, intentionally striking an oil tank.

Investigators state the damage resulted in a significant power loss and the release of about 20,000 litres of oil.

An early estimate for repairs and environmental cleanup is about $1.1 million.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Lloydminster RCMP at 780-808-8300.

Over 2,500 Lloydminster subscribers woke up without power. The electricity was out for about three hours, returning around 8:00 a.m.
