Ag producers making progress with seeding 2025

Saskatchewan producers have 72 per cent of seeding done, while Alberta producers have about 73 per cent of crops in the ground. Both provinces are ahead of the five-year average.

In Alberta, the data as of May 16 for Region Three, which is the northeast areas like Smoky Lake, Vermilion, Camrose, and Provost, show:

  • Major crops seeding progress is 37 per cent complete, compared to the 5-year average of 14 per cent
  • Dry peas emergence is at 13 per cent
  • Spring wheat at 6 per cent
  • Barley at 1 per cent
  • Sub-surface moisture is 13 per cent poor, 47 per cent fair, 40 per cent good, 1 per cent excellent, and 0 per cent excessive
  • Conditions of tame hay are reported as 11 per cent poor, 48 per cent fair, 40 per cent good, and 1 per cent excellent

For Saskatchewan areas around Cut Knife, Macklin, Glaslyn, Maidstone, Meadow Lake, Pierceland, St. Walburg and Rosetown, producers have completed 81 per cent of seeding.

Overall results in the northwest region:

  • Barley – 82.54 per cent
  • Canola – 67.7 per cent
  • Flax – 77.73 per cent
  • Lentils – 99.74 per cent
  • Oats – 71.05 per cent
  • Spring wheat – 94.22 per cent
