A woman from Alberta Beach and a man from B.C are facing drug possession charges inĀ Vermilion court, as police recover nearly a million dollars in drugs, and unstamped tobacco in two separate incidents.
On May 4, 2025, Alberta RCMP Roving Traffic Units (RTU) North Team members pulled over a vehicle to check the driver’s license and registration.
During the traffic stop, police searched the vehicle and found 10 kilos of methamphetamine and two kilos of cocaine with a street value of about $920,000.
Darcy Chernowsky, 33-years of Roberts Creek, B.C., is charged with:
- Two counts of Possession for the purpose of trafficking.
He was released on conditions and is due back in the Alberta Court of Justice in Vermilion on July 7.
In a second matter on May 6, RTU North Team members stopped a vehicle for a possible vehicle equipment violation.
Police noticed unstamped tobacco that they say the suspect was attempting to hide.
Officers seized 90,000 cigarettes valued at about $44,000.
Kimberly Butterfield, 53 years of Alberta Beach, is charged with:
- Possession of unstamped tobacco
- Possession of unstamped tobacco for the purpose of trafficking
- Fraud over $5,000
Butterfield was released on conditions and is to return to the Alberta Court of Justice in Vermilion on July 7.
